| What the client wanted - The client wanted to improve on an existing building design so that visitors to the restaurant would be even more impressed with interior layout and design. The client hopes that by providing patrons with a pleasant area to eat, excellent service and quality food at good prices they will return and tell others of their experience. Design and build had to be completed within budget and enable a minimum number of patrons to be catered for. The building is in a conservation area and the client wanted to go beyond the strict building rules that would apply to create a restaurant that was particularly environmentally friendly. |

| The challenges – The main challenges were to ensure design and building could be completed within budget but provide a certain amount of seating in the restaurant area. The job was made easier by the client wanting to meet and exceed building regulations connected with being situated within a conservation area but extra consideration was needed because drainage was low. |

|
| The solution – A solution that met conservation rules and the client’s business plan had to be found. After consultation with the client Building Plans Ltd proposed using different materials that would make the interior more appealing, meet conservation rules and help control budget. Rendering provided an exterior in harmony with the surrounding area. A vaulted roof was proposed that would leave the timber beams exposed to create an impressive interior. Building plans Ltd were able to design and show the clients what the roof system would look like prior to build using the Maxon drawing system. High levels of insulation and a climate control system would ensure patron comfort and help with conservation and environmental concerns. A treatment plant drainage system was installed meaning that the very best has been done to ensure that the environment in such a momentous area close to the river remains unpolluted for all to enjoy. |
